Murray in
US Open final; Benefits from Jez
Green's physical programme
clearly visible
Andy
Murray is a great talent and the
confidence and mental strength
he has taken from knowing he can
physically last 5 sets with the
best in the world is a tribute
to the work done with Jez
supported by Matt Little. This
was evident in both the Melzer
and Del Potro matches where Andy
was clearly fitter and stronger
in the later part of those
matches. Andy's desire to
improve his mental and physical
strength even more quickly after
losing to Nadal at Wimbledon has
been impressive. In the semis he
showed his maturity and matched
Nadal physically.
MCTA Director
of Tennis, Dave Sammel says
"Andy has the desire, the head
and the tennis. He needed
physically to be better and to
mature on court, learning to use
the fire within effectively. He
gathered a team around him in
November last year to help him
in his quest. MCTA's Jez Green
is part of this team. Jez is
unique in that he is a good
tennis player. When I coached
him as a junior he had plenty of
talent but his true passion of
physically training tennis
players developed at
Loughborough where he studied
sports science. After gaining
his degree he came to work with
me and the difference between
him and most trainers is that he
knows how a player moves, what
it feels like to move on a court
and how a player thinks on
court. Designing a programme
with this knowledge is why he is
extraodinary and Andy has
benefited and made full use of
this. Over the years many
players have improved through
our insistence on linking the
the physical with the on court
training"
The MCTA wish
Andy the best of luck tonight in
his quest to win his first Grand
Slam and write himself into
tennis history.
