Boffa,
Vucic progress as Moodie and
Fitzpatrick battle injury
Late
summer has brought mixed
fortunes to MCTA. Stefy
recorded her best win of her
career when she overcame
Nueza Silva of Portugal in
the first round of Coimbra
25K Challenger 6-3 in the
third set. Silva was on a
great run of win, final and
win of the past 3
Challengers and the form
player of the month. Stefy
has modified her game into
an attacking style and has
spent 7 months adapting to
this aggressive style and
the work is beginning to pay
off. She lost a 3-0 lead in
the 2nd round eventually
losing to the tournament
winner Thyssen 6-4 7-5 but
shown herself she can
compete with the top
Challenger girls. She
followed up with a
semi-final in a 10K in
Cumberland which was a
decent result but actually
disappointing for her, given
the confidence she has
gained. Next up is the 50K
in Maribor, Slovenia.
Ilija has
shrugged off the cobwebs
after a month off with the
groin pull that prevented
him from playing Wimbledon
juniors. He made the
quarter-finals of a Serbian
Future last week and this
week has qualified and won a
good 1st round match that
excited Igor who immediately
phoned Tennis Director Dave
Sammel with these words "Ilija
has had a very good win. He
played the right type of
tennis and held it together
for all the match. It has
been a while since he has
exciting to watch for a
whole match!"
Wes is
currently rehabbing a torn
tendon in his knee the same
injury that has plagued him
all season. Rest and
shockwave therapy are the
doctors orders and
unfortunately the time it
will take may keep Wes off
the court for the rest of
the year putting paid to his
Shanghai debut at the end of
season top 8 doubles
masters. He and Jeff were
lying 5th after Wimbledon.
Wes is hoping to resume both
his singles and doubles
career with a vengeance in
2009. All at MCTA wish him a
full recovery and know how
hard he is working in the
gym on everything possible
that does not affect the
knee.
Anna
explains in her latest blog
about the current stress
fracture that is keeping her
out of the game since
Coimbra where she was forced
to retire.
