Kontinen makes European
Cup final; Vucic returns to
reach fourth round
Henri Kontinen's rich vein
of form continued when he
switched from the green
lawns of Wimbledon to the
red clay of Austria and
reached the final of the
2008 European Junior
Championships 18&U. He lost
a close match 6-4 6-4 to
Guillaume Rufin of France which is a
superb effort given the
tight timescale in arriving
in Austria after his Davis
Cup victory the Sunday
before.
MCTA
Director of Tennis, David
Sammel had these comments
"This is exactly the way a
good player goes about his
business. Backing up the
junior Wimbledon success
with winning for his country
in Davis Cup, then returning
to juniors and making the
European Championship final
is a strong signal that
Henri is mentally very
strong. It would have been
easy to fade in the
Europeans. He used his
position of strength to his
advantage thus showing a
pride of performance that
counts for a lot in a
players career."
Ilija
Vucic returned from injury
to put in a solid run to the
4th round having been
sidelined with a groin pull
for almost 6 weeks missing
junior Wimbledon because of
that injury. Ilija will now
focus on a number of Futures
events to try build on his
good start in pro tennis
before he and Henri end
their junior careers at the
US Open in September.
Stefy
Boffa has made excellent
progress in her game in
Spain and has qualified for
Vigo 25K this week joining
Anna Fitzpatrick in the main
draw.
