Fitzpatrick
has Hatrick of
Challenger
Titles
MCTA
Player Anna
Fitzpatrick has
added the 3rd
title to her two
titles earlier
this year in the
USA. Anna is
closing in on
becoming the
British No1
doubles player
and we look
forward to
seeing what her
latest ranking
will be after
this win.
In a tough and
high quality
semi-final
Hawkins/Fitzpatrick
saved
matchpoints
against MCTA new
girl Stefy Boffa
and Nikola
Frankova
6-4,2-6,18-16 to
make the final.
Stefy was in her
first semi-final
as an MCTA
player and is
making steady
progress. Coach
Jason Torpey
describes "The
first set of
this match was
probably the
best doubles
I've seen from
any pairs on
this trip, with
the only break
happening from
the only game
with break
points in it in
the set
(Steffi's serve
at 3-3), and
apart from 1
double fault was
due to Anna, and
Anna's quality
of returning and
crossing as
opposed to
Steffi and
Nikola's poor
play."
Fitzpatrick is
partnering Anna
Hawkins with
whom she will
play the
grasscourt
season including
Wimbledon.
Director of
tennis, David
Sammel says "It
is pleasing that
they have
quickly shown
form as a new
pair. The
commitment that
Anna Hawkins has
shown in
travelling to
Mexico to build
teamwork before
the summer has
been rewarded.
We hope they
continue to
build towards
the grass with
further
improvement and
excellent
results."
He added that
"After a
disappointing
2nd round
singles loss the
best reaction
for Anna was to
win the doubles
and underlines a
growing mental
strength and
resilience.
Hopefully this
grit will shine
through in her
singles results
in the near
future."
MCTA players
have had good
results in the
last 3 months
putting together
12 doubles and 2
singles titles
this year.
