Kontinen Guns for Second
Title
Henri
Kontinen stormed through the
Group 2 ITF in Indonesia to
claim both the singles and
doubles titles (with Vucic)
claiming a 7-6, 6-2 win over
his team mate Ilija in the
semi finals. He went on to
beat Kittiphong
Wachiramanowong 6-7(7) 6-4
6-2 in the final.
This week in Thailand Group
1 Kontinen is through to the
semi final looking for a
second consecutive title.
Vucic lost in the 3rd round
of the same tournament 7-6,
6-1 from Christopher Rungkat
(INA) but then he teamed up
with Moser of Austria to
claim a semi final and
search for his second
doubles title in as many
weeks. The past month has
been superb for MCTA with
Anna and Ana claiming back
to back Challenger titles
and now the boys are turning
it on.
Director of tennis David
Sammel says "Ilija and Henri
were struggling coming into
Asia and having gotten off
to a poor start in the
Futures event suddenly won a
couple of matches which gave
them some confidence. Henri
has continued to grow in
confidence and is now the
guy to beat on this Asian
leg of the ITF tour. Ilija
is disappointing in dropping
his head after losing close
first sets and something
MCTA coach Igor Tomasevic is
anxious to address and Ilija
needs to mature in this
department. Doubles is a
different story where he is
dominating the court."
Henri will move solidly up
the rankings and Ilija will
also make a nice move. These
results will set them up
well for the summer and the
European majors in Milan,
Paris and Wimbledon.
