Veselinovic Surges Through
Anna Veselinovic sealed an impressive fourth consecutive win
at the $25,000 challenger event in
Phoenix, Arizona.
The 19-year-old is fighting to win back a full-time place at
the Monte Carlo Tennis Academy after
failing to reach her targets in
2007, and she rattled through
qualifying with few difficulties.
One of her victories came over
Antonella Serra Zanetti - a former
World No.60.
In the first round of the main draw, Veselinovic smashed her
way past Melissa Torres Sandoval of
Mexico - a player ranked more than
150 places above the MCTA player.
Veselinovic won 6-1, 6-3.
I'm confident in myself and my game, and I did a good job
finding the bad spots of my
opponent, said Veselinovic.
For MCTA Director of Coaching David Sammel, the victory was
a continuation of the form that he
is looking to see every time
Veselinovic takes to the court.
In 2007, Ana did not beat one player ranked higher than
herself. Here in Phoenix she has
beaten four in a row, and this was a
routine win over a clay-courter, he
said.
She will now meet the sixth seed Kathrin Woerle of Germany
in the second round.
