Vucic Starts Well in Paris

Ilija Vucic began his journey towards the French Open juniors main draw by winning his opening qualifying match in Paris on Thursday.

Vucic has risen 600 places in the rankings over the past eight months to reach No.86, and, after squeezing into the qualifying draw, he made the most of his chance.

He defeated Frederic De Fays, a boy almost two years older and ranked 28 places higher than Vucic, in three sets.

Vucic started superbly, taking a 6-1, 2-0 lead before going off the boil and losing 13 points in a row.

He quickly regained his composure to seal a 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 victory, and keep alive his hopes of featuring in Saturday’s main draw matches.

Vucic is a junior member of the Monte Carlo Tennis Academy – a unique, touring academy based in Monte Carlo with the mission to develop Top 100 tennis players.
