MCTA Stars Suffer Final
Heartbreak
Anna
Fitzpatrick and Ana Veselinovic
suffered heartbreak in the final of
the $25,000 ITF tournament in
Nottingham after coming within two
points of claiming their first
Challenger title together.
The Monte-Carlo Academy stars were
leading top seeds Emma Laine and
Caroline Maes by a set and 5-3
before eventually going down 3-6,
7-6(5), 10-7 in a Match Tie-break.
“We are very dissappointed to lose,”
said Fitzpatrick.
“At 6-3 5-3 up, we started to get
tight and miss a bit more, but also
they noticed that we were tight and
picked it up,” said Fitzpatrick.
It was the second Challenger final
of the year for Fitzpatrick and
Veselinovic having lost in Antalya
in May, although they captured the
$10,000 event in Calgary in July.
“Up to 5-3 in the second set they
were brilliant,” said coach David
Sammel. “It will just take winning a
Challenger for them to break through
to Tour level quickly.”
Both Fitzpatrick and Veselinovic
will now begin their preparations
for the $50,000 Challenger in San
Francisco, which begins on October
8.
