Moodie's US Open Agony

MCTA Player Wes MoodieWesley Moodie faces an agonising wait to see if he has a place in the main draw of this year’s US Open after losing in the final round of the qualifying competition on Friday.

After defeating Takao Suzuki and Brian Dabul in the first two rounds, the 28-year-old South African went down 6-7(6), 7-6(3), 6-3 to Frenchman Thierry Ascione in New York.

The Monte-Carlo Academy star will now have to hope for a Lucky Loser place in the main draw, which begins at Flushing Meadows on Monday, August 27.

“It was a high quality match against Ascione,” said David Sammel. “It’s a real shame as the momentum has been building well.  There’s a slight chance he will get in and will deserve it if he does.”

The final round of the qualifying competition will be completed on Saturday, with the highest ranked losers being eligible for Lucky Loser spots should main draw players pull out before it begins.
