Fitzpatrick and Ana Veselinovic
both continued their smooth
progress at the $10,000 ITF
tournament in Calgary, Canada on
Wednesday as the Monte-Carlo
Tennis Academy stars moved
through to the quarterfinals.
Veselinovic,
seeded No. 2 in the hard court
event, recorded an impressive
6-1, 6-2 victory over Dominika
Dieskova of the Slovak Republic,
while Fitzpatrick, the No. 3
seed, dropped just one game en
route to a 6-0, 6-1 win over
Canadian wild card Stephanie
Roy.
“Ana watched
the ball and was really sharp
with the feet from start to
finish,” said coach Antony
Hampson. “It was a really solid
performance, and nice to put
this one away.”
Veselinovic
and Fitzpatrick are now just one
win away from setting up a
semifinal showdown in Calgary.
Meanwhile,
Ilija Vucic went down in a tough
three-set match in the third
round of the European Junior
Championships in Austria. The
16-year-old from Serbia suffered
a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 defeat at the
hands of No. 16 seed Ilija
Martinoski on the red clay.
