Anna
Fitzpatrick cruised through to the
quarterfinals of the $10,000 ITF
tournament in Nottingham on Thursday
with a straight sets victory over
fellow Briton Julia Bone.
Anna, seeded No.
4 at the Nottingham Tennis Centre,
followed up her first round win
against Australian Monique Lynch
with an impressive 6-4, 6-3 victory
over Bone.
“I’m happy to get
through it in two sets, it could
have easily gone to three if I
hadn't been really focused,” said
Anna. “I started the match very
competitively, winning a close first
game on my serve, even though I
missed my first serve on the first
six points.
“She started the
second set very well, and I just
tried to keep with her until I got
an opportunity to take control. Once
I came back from a break down to
level at 3-3, I was playing very
well and she couldn't really hurt
me.”
Coach David
Sammel added: “It was a very mature
performance. Julia played as well as
she can and Anna stuck with her then
raised her game to finish each set.”
The 18-year-old
from Sheffield, currently ranked No.
401 on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour,
will now face American qualifier
Brittany Augustine for a place in
the semifinals. Augustine, who
turned 16 years old on September 19,
won their only previous encounter
last October in South Carolina in
three sets.
