Vucic Breaks Into Top 100; Sets Sights on Top Ten

Monte Carlo Tennis Academy player Ilija Vucic has broken into the Top 100 in the ITF Junior Rankings for the first time and set his sights on the Top Ten by the end of 2008.

Ilija reached the semifinals of the singles and won the doubles title at the 15th International Junior Tournament Citta' Di Prato in Italy to jump more than 20 places to No.86.

The young Serbian player is the only boy from his nation to feature in the Top 100 junior rankings at present, and he has every intention of going much higher.

“Ilija continues to move in the right direction,” said MCTA Head Coach, David Sammel.

“Apart from the singles last week he also won the doubles, which was his first tournament win at grade 2 level, and another boost to his confidence. While he is currently No.86 in the rankings overall, he is No.24 in the world in his actual age-group. This is the clearest indication that the top 10 target we have set for 2008 is
totally achievable.”

Ilija also began his campaign impressively at the 29th International Junior Tournament "Citta' Di Santa Croce" 2007 on Monday.

He beat Rodrigo Perez 7-6, 6-3 but now faces difficult opposition in the form of No.4 seed Hsien-Yin Peng of Taipei. Peng is currently ranked No.16 in the ITF junior rankings.
