Fitzpatrick Falls in Quarterfinals

Anna Fitzpatrick’s first Challenger tournament came to an end in the quarterfinals after she went down 6-4, 7-5 against local favourite Pemra Ozgen in Attaleia, Turkey.

Anna came through the qualifying rounds to reach the main draw of the $25,000 tournament and progressed to the last eight with victories over Ria Doernamann and Anna Koumantou without dropping a set.

However, the 21-year-old Ozgen, who defeated top seed Sofia Arvidsson in the first round, proved a step too far on this occasion for Anna.

“It was a disappointing end because if she had executed her shots like she had in the previous four matches she could have won the tournament,” said coach David Sammel. “But it has been a good week.”
