Veselinovic Falls Short in Grado
Doubles Bid
Playing
in her second doubles final in a
month, Ana Veselinovic was hoping
for a different result as the young
Serb and her Australian partner
Christina Wheeler were just one win
away from claiming the title at the
$25,000 ITF tournament in Grado,
Italy.
However, it wasn’t to be as Ana and
Wheeler, playing together for the
first time, suffered a 7-5, 6-3
defeat at the hands of top seeds
Stefania Chieppa and Daria Kustava
in the final.
It was Ana’s second final defeat in
her last three tournaments, as she
and fellow Monte-Carlo Tennis
Academy member Anna Fitzpatrick lost
in the final in Ali Bey in May.
“It was same story as it was in
Turkey,” said Ana. “We had a lot of
chances, and at the same time we
were so close but so far away.”
Despite the loss, reaching the final
was some consolation for Ana, who
qualified for the main draw of the
singles competition but went down in
the first round to Germany’s Justine
Ozga in three sets.
“I can see that I can be good in
doubles,” added Ana. “It helps my
singles, especially my volleys, and
it s good for my discipline and my
cross court game, which is very
good.”
