Fitzpatrick Underlines Potential in Tipton

Anna Fitzpatrick showed glimpses of the player that she hopes to become in a battling three-set defeat against a woman ranked more than 400 places above her.

Anna, who turns 18 in April, was beaten 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 by 20-year-old Andrea Hlavackova of the Czech Republic in Tipton.

The Czech, ranked No.211, stormed into a 6-2, 2-0 lead before Anna found her form.

With her all-court game working well, Anna reeled off 7 out of the next 8 games to take the second set 6-3 and create chances at the start of the third.

But, after saving a break point, Hlavackova strengthened her resolve and Anna’s lack of experience told.

MCTA Head Coach Dave Sammel watched from the sidelines throughout, and was happy with the progress shown by his charge.

“With this match Anna has shown that she can compete at this level,” he said.

“With more experience she will become more and more comfortable. We saw glimpses here of what we are working towards – which is a very exciting tennis player.”
