Fitzpatrick Suffers Prerov Defeat

Anna Fitzpatrick reached the second round of the $25,000 Zubr Cup in Prerov before going down against top seeded Czech Petra Kvitova on Thursday.

The Monte-Carlo Academy star, who qualified for the tournament before defeating Iveta Gerlova in the first round of the main draw, suffered a 6-1, 6-2 loss against World No. 159 Kvitova.

“Anna missed the opportunities to make it close, especially in the second set,” said MCTA Director of Coaching David Sammel. “Anna can play at this level but to do so we have to get her practicing at this level. She did well given her few exposures to top 100 type players and Kvitova is a certainty for the top 100.”

Kvitova, ranked 220 places higher than Anna on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, began the year by winning 17 consecutive matches on the pro circuit, picking up three titles in the process. The 17-year-old also has a 16-2 record in the juniors this year.
