Veselinovic Joins
Monte Carlo Tennis Academy; Timotic
on 12-Week Trial
The Monte Carlo
Tennis Academy is delighted to
announce that Serbia’s Ana
Veselinovic has become the fourth
member of the world’s first touring
academy after joining on a full-time
basis.
Veselinovic
celebrated her 19th
birthday on February 22, making her
the Academy’s first Senior member.
She joins Junior members Anna
Fitzpatrick (17) and Oscar Podlewski
(18) of Britain, as well as Serbia’s
Ilija Vucic (16) at the elite
Academy, which was launched in 2006
to discover, train and manage the
best young tennis players in the
world and develop them into becoming
top 100 players.
“Ana is a
striking person with a distinct
personality to run alongside
substantial tennis talent,” said
MCTA Director of Coaching, David
Sammel.
“We intend to
bring better planning and routine to
her training and schedule which we
believe will allow Ana to realise
her great potential. She has already
won a Challenger tournament, which
is significant at her age.”
Veselinovic, who
is currently ranked No. 450 on the
Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, spent five
weeks training with the MCTA at the
beginning of 2007, reaching the
quarterfinals at the ITF tournament
in Sunderland in January.
“It’s an
unbelievable feeling to join the
Monte Carlo Tennis Academy,” said
Veselinovic.
“It’s my dream.
When they asked me to join, I almost
started crying, everything was
perfect. I know I have to give my
maximum on the court and everything
will be good. They are amazing
coaches and I just want to work with
them, they really are good quality.”
Veselinovic
captured her first professional
title in October 2006 at the $25,000
ITF tournament in Podgorica in her
native Serbia, and the teenager is
eager for more success.
“I have really
big goals in tennis,” said
Veselinovic, whose favorite player
is Justine Henin. “For sure it is to
be No. 1, or to be in the Top 10. I
want to improve and to be the best I
can.”
Experienced
Timotic Aiming For Next Level
Another addition
to the traveling Academy is Ana
Timotic, also from Serbia.
The 24-year-old
is a member of the Serbian Fed Cup
team and broke into the top 200 for
the first time last June.
She has joined
the MCTA for a 12-week trial period,
and Sammel is confident that she has
the ability to reach the top 100 and
help the MCTA’s younger members.
“Ana (Timotic)
brings experience to the Academy,”
he said.
“She is attracted
to the touring nature of the MCTA
and also needs the expertise to move
to the next level having already
reached the top 200. Igor
(Tomasevic) and I saw her play last
week and discussed her ambitions.
She has the qualities to reach the
top 100 and, importantly, has
leadership qualities that will help
to speed up the development of Anna
Fitzpatrick and Ana Veselinovic.”
