Vucic Suffers French Open Heartbreak

Ilija Vucic's hopes of a place in the main draw of the French Open Juniors were dashed after he suffered a heartbreaking three-set loss in the second round of the qualifying draw at Roland Garros.

After his impressive victory over Frederic de Fays on Thursday, Ilija went down 6-2, 3-6, 8-6 to Slovakia's Andrei Martin in Paris.

"It was a brave performance," said coach David Sammel. "Ilija had a big chance at 4-4 in the third set but we can have no complaints. It was basically a tough fight and he got pipped."

Martin, who was ranked as high as No. 8 in the ITF Junior Rankings in January, reached the quarterfinals of the French Open Juniors last year.

Vucic is a junior member of the Monte Carlo Tennis Academy a unique, touring academy based in Monte Carlo with the mission to develop Top 100 tennis players.
