Vucic Through to Uruguay Bowl Quarterfinals

Ilija Vucic continued his impressive clay court performances after reaching the quarterfinals of the Uruguay Bowl.

Ilija, who is currently on a five-week tour of South America, built on his third round showing at the Argentina Cup last week by recording successive victories in Montevideo over Yuki Matsuo of Japan and Facundo Bagnis of Argentina.

After his straight sets win over Matsuo in the first round, Ilija showed great fighting spirits against Bagnis, recovering from the loss of the first set to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.

“It was a good win for Ilija,” said coach Jez Green.  “He was tactically mature and showed good patience after losing the first 10 break points of the second set.”

In the quarterfinals, Ilija will meet qualifier Rafael Garcia, the Brazilian who reached the semifinals of the Argentina Cup last week.
