Three Set Triumph for Vucic
Eddie Herr International 16 and Under Championships

Number three seed Ilija Vucic defeated William Parker from the USA in the first round of the Eddie Herr International 16 and Under Championships yesterday.

A great start ensured the young Serbian player a 4-1 lead and despite dropping two more games he secured the first set comfortably 6-3.

The second set was a complete contrast.  A poor start contributed to Ilija losing five games in a row!  A lack of aggression and concentration combined to produce the sudden setback and although Ilija regained his composure (and game plan) and clawed back to 5-4 he had left it too late to salvage the set, losing 6-4.

Back on form in the third and final set the MCTA player broke to go 2-0 up but then wasted the opportunity by losing the next game.  Ilija broke once more to go 3-1 up but Parker again returned the favour and the score line eventually reached 4-4.

However, a superb service game by Ilija at the crucial moment gave him a 5-4 lead. Despite being 40-15 down in the following game his opponent was unable to cope with the pressure and Ilija fought back not only to take the game but also the match.
