New Recruit! - Serbian Player Ilija Vucic Joins the MCTA

The MCTA is delighted to announce that new recruit Ilija Vucic from Serbia signed his contract with the Academy today (29/06/06).  Ilija, who turns 16 in October has already won five National titles in Serbia & Montenegro and was ranked number eight in the U14’s in Europe.

As his results show he has a vast amount of promise and MCTA Director of Coaching David Sammel is confident of his ability:

“We brought Ilija to Monte Carlo for an assessment week and very quickly we were impressed by his ball striking ability and his athletic potential. Given the limited exposure to international tennis that he has had we are extremely confident that the playing schedule and training that the MCTA will give to Ilija will propel him to the top of the world junior game in the next two years.”

Ilija is from Belgrade, Serbia and started playing when he was just seven years old.  His favourite surface is carpet (although that may change once he gets used to the red clay courts of the Monte Carlo Country Club!) and he is right handed.  If he isn’t playing tennis he likes to spend his spare time cycling.

The MCTA officially starts on September 4th and the first tournament scheduled for our players is in Hungary.  For more details on the players’ schedule please visit the MCTA Touring Schedule.
