Doubling Up for Success!

MCTA Player Ilija Vucic partnered Aljaz Bedene from Slovenia to capture the Boys Doubles Title at the 8th Serbian Open.  The pair defeated Dimitrov and Dimov from Bulgaria decisively 6-2 6-2 in the Final.

It was, however, the first round against Mirtea and Albot that posed the biggest obstacle for Ilija and Aljaz.   Securing the first set 6-4 they dropped the second in a tiebreak, causing much frustration as they had been a break and 3-2 up.  Brushing this aside at the start of the final set they swept through the third 6-2.

In the quarter final Ilija and Aljaz staged a superb come back from 4-1 down to clinch the first set 7-5 against Mihai and Tanase.  Breaking immediately in the second set, they held their serves for the remainder of the match taking the set 6-4.

A poor start in the semi final was compensated by the fact that their opponents Zhyrmont and Klimenka had a similar dismal start too.  Yet it was Ilija and Aljaz once again who clinched the first turning point, breaking the opposition at 3-3 in the first set.  Once in the lead the determined pair never looked back and stormed through the match 6-4 6-2 and into the Final.

In the Final they faced the Bulgarian team of Dimitrov and Dimov but by this point the MCTA ace and Aljaz had honed their game and got off to a perfect start.  Without a moment’s hesitation they stormed through the match losing only four games on the way to victory.
