Fitzpatrick Claims First ITF
Title
MCTA
player Anna Fitzpatrick teamed
up with fellow Brit Jade Curtis
to win the girls doubles title
in the Jerry Simmons Evert
American Junior ITF tournament
on Sunday. It was Anna’s first
junior ITF trophy and was a
relatively decisive win with the
British pair defeating Hsu and
Jerjomina 6-3 6-3 in the final.
Anna and Jade got off to a great
start going 2-0 up with both
pairs playing one up one back.
However, their opponents soon
changed their game plan opting
for a more defensive approach
playing from the back of the
court. This may have worked in
previous matches but not against
Anna and Jade who were familiar
with this style of play having
faced it in every round so far –
it must be an American tactic!
After winning the first set 6-3
half way through the second set
Anna and Jade’s opponents
reverted back to one forward,
one at the baseline. It made no
difference though. Superb
crossing from Jade, teed up by
Anna saw the Brits finish the
set off 6-3 and with it claim
the girls doubles title.
This
week is a match free week for
Anna as she prepares for a
gruelling five tournament
stretch starting on November 18th.
Instead, she along with the rest
of the team is undergoing a
tough training week with MCTA
