Ilija Comes Unstuck in Serbia

Just days after losing narrowly in the final of the Talentum Cup in Budapest, Hungary, Ilija Vucic stumbled in the second round of the Pancevo International in home country Serbia.  Eighth seed Dimov Valentin from Bulgaria defeated the MCTA player 7-5 6-4, despite Ilija serving at 3-1 up in the first set.

A few missed shots in the fifth game lost Ilija the momentum and the Bulgarian was allowed back in the game.  Both players held their serves until 5-5 when Valentin stepped up the tempo and took the first set.

The second set remained close but the eighth seed was serving too well for Ilija to be able to break him.  Coupled with a few missed chances Ilija bowed out 6-4.  The MCTA player gave a solid display but was frustrated at not making the most of opportunities that came his way.

Yet Ilija’s first round win showed exceptional class.  Showing no mercy he destroyed his opponent, Androic Toni from Croatia 6-0 6-2.
