Fitzpatrick Wins Casely International Women’s Open

Anna Fitzpatrick flew the MCTA flag high as she lifted the trophy for the Casely International Women’s Open.  Smoothly negotiating herself through four rounds she only dropped one set en route to claiming the title.

Defeating Diana Marcinkevica from Latvia 6-4 6-2 in the opening round, Anna next encountered Nicole Montiero from the Netherlands who put up a brave performance.  Yet with Anna battling from start to finish Montiero was eventually brushed aside 6-3 6-4.

In the semi finals Kim Alice Grajdek from Germany caused Anna to lose a set but despite this Anna fought back strongly and eventually secured the match 6-3 0-6 6-4.  Anna said, “I was very happy to win this particular match as it forced me to fight hard again and now I am thoroughly enjoying the challenges that my opponents present.”

The final was against Aki Yamasoto from Japan and although it was the least competitive of all four matches Anna did enough to secure victory taking the match 6-3 6-4.
