Tough Conditions for Anna
Talentum Cup, Budapest

Easing through her first match a slight stumble in the second round of the Talentum Cup against Timea Babus from Hungary gave momentary cause for concern for Anna Fitzpatrick.  However, despite losing the first set Anna soon regrouped and swept through the remainder of the match 4-6 6-2 6-2. Yet perhaps the alarm bells had been triggered as a slightly off par performance in the quarter finals resulted in a 6-2 6-3 defeat to Hungary’s Reka – Luca Jani.

Not feeling one hundred per cent before stepping on the court, matters weren’t improved by the elements.  Battling against the wind, rain and a cold Anna’s usual sparkle was missing.  Unable to find a rhythm at the start didn’t bode well for the rest of the match and powerless to change the momentum into her favour the games began to run in her opponent’s direction.

Still it was a lesson learned for the MCTA player who now knows how crucial the first few points are to set the tone for the rest of the match:

“I was very disappointed because it was a good opportunity to make it into the semis and get some useful points as she wasn’t that strong or experienced.  Had I taken chances and been really positive at the start the match could have been completely different.”  Anna Fitzpatrick
